A RACE in honour of one of the country's best horses of recent years is the main event at a North-East racecourse this weekend.
Double Trigger was one of the UK's greatest stayers and the Double Trigger Maiden Stakes takes place at Redcar Racecourse this Friday, for the third time.
The race is supported by the European Breeders Fund and is for two-year-olds over nine furlongs - the equivalent of the race won by Double Trigger at the Redcar meeting in 1993. The horse broke the track record for a two-year-old over that distance, winning by ten lengths, at odds of 14/1.
Double Trigger went on to have a remarkable career, winning 14 of 29 races and becoming the first horse for more than 150 years to win the Doncaster Cup three times.
The seven-race programme on Friday is scheduled to begin at 2.15pm with a contest for maiden fillies, also supported by the European Breeders Fund.
The most valuable race of the afternoon is The Constant Security Rated Stakes.
