THREE people have been selected for an independent panel to consider the allowances of Teesdale District Council members.
The team has been announced after an appeal last month for members of the public to form an independent remuneration panel.
After receiving six applications, the council selected Malcolm Warne, editor of the Darlington & Stockton Times, Liz O'Sullivan, a retired local government worker, and Roger Humphries, a former secretary and solicitor for Durham County Council, to make up the panel.
Every local authority in the country is required to select an independent remuneration panel as part of the Local Government Act 2000.
Each panel must consist of a council taxpayer and must not include members of a local authority.
The first task of the panel when it holds its inugural meeting next month, will be to consider a new scheme for allowances
