Richmond councillors have agreed they need more time to debate the Army's request for a painting of Richmond to hang in barracks at Catterick.
The Mayor, Councillor Tom Burrows, told fellow town councillors on Monday night that 8 Transport Regiment had made the inquiry as the Richmond Room at Marne Barracks has no illustration to reflect its links with the nearby market town.
Senior officers were hoping there may be a spare one gathering dust at the Town Hall which they could offer a new lease of life.
The meeting was told the Army would cover insurance costs and provide secure transport, while Councillor David Johnson suggested the loan of a picture could even help strengthen links between the regiment and the local community.
However, others felt more research was necessary and the views of the wider public should be taken into account before any decision is made.
As a result, the request has been referred to a separate committee, which will be asked to examine the options before making a recommendation to the full town council.
