FINISHING touches are being put to a town's bid to become a city.
Middlesbrough is hoping it will be third time lucky in applying for the status.
The town's hopes of success are boosted by messages of support from across the North-East, with Middlesbrough Mayor Councillor Mrs Pat Walker maintaining it is the only town from the region bidding for city status.
She said: "Achieving such a status would be a great boost for Middlesbrough for today's citizens and, just as important, our young people who are tomorrow's citizens.
"The messages of support we have had from local people and from all over the region have been tremendous. We are very hopeful that goodwill will help us achieve this great honour.'
