A team of Cruse Bereavement counsellors from the region has had its mercy mission to New York called off.
Counsellors, including two from Darlington, were on stand-by to travel to New York to help bereaved British families cope with their grief following the terrorist attacks on the city.
However, the trip has been postponed as many British families have returned home having visited the scene of the attack.
