Kall Kwik Harrogate and District League
Champions Moortown started where they left off last season with victory in their opening match in Division One of the League.
But they were unable to achieve a clean sweep against Collingham, who finished fourth last term.
Moortown's 2-1 victory came thanks to wins by Robin Mannell and seasoned veteran David Lines. Anthony Kettlewell took the Collingham rubber, winning a five-game encounter against Graham Snowden, regarded as the Moortown side's war horse.
Scores - Collingham 1 Moortown 2 (Collingham names first): Nick Brown lost to Robin Mannell 9-3, 10-8, 5-9, 0-9, 0-9; Paul Hill lost to David Lines 5-9, 4-9, 9-4, 6-9; Anthony Kettlewell beat Graham Snowden 5-9, 9-2, 9-3, 8-10, 9-3.
Harlow, strengthened by the arrival of teenager Ross Kneller from the Harrogate Squash Club's local ranks, were beaten 2-1 at home by Adel, who previously played under the Headingley banner. The Headingley courts are no longer available to the club following a planning wrangle and their players have had to disperse to other clubs.
