Summer League

Brandon continued their good run in the second half of the season and have now forced a play-off for the Second Division title with Ferryhill, who were their visitors for the final match. Kevin Sample and Owen Howarth gave Brandon a great start with wins in the first two frames. Ferryhill came back with a win from Ian Roddam, leaving them requiring one of the final two frames to became the Second Division champions. However John Hall and Graham Jackson took the final two points for Brandon to give them one more chance to land the title.

West Auckland only needed a point to be sure of being the Third Division runners-up when they visited Spennymoor B, who had already clinched the title. They managed to take two points to ensure their trophies when Paul Vickers and Andrew Sugden won. The Moors went to their odd point victory with wins from Micky Anderson, Kurt McCormack and Wayne Parry.

Wheatley Hill A went into their final game at home to Newton Aycliffe as the First Division champions. They never trailed but were taken to the decider before edging through to victory. Ronnie Peacock put the Hill ahead but Mark Howe, with a 40 break, levelled. Dean Bryden restored the home lead only to see Bill Barrigan equalise again. In the decider, the Hilll's Dave Walker put in breaks of 45 and 39 to beat Stuart Neil. Old Shildon were already assured of the First Division runners-up spot and twice led at home to Fishburn A but went down in the decider. Billy Goggins put Shildon ahead but Tommy Carter levelled. Jossie Aldworth put Shildon back ahead but John Carter equalised. In the decider, Fishburn's John Griffin beat Michael Pratt.

Shotton Palms chance of avoiding relegation to the Second Division were looking slim when the visiting Witton Gilbert took the first three points through John Rooney junior, Malcolm Peart and Ian Renwick. However the drop was avoided when Jimmy Evans junior and Paul Hickman won the last two frames for the Palms.

A big home win for Stanley Central would have sent the visiting Spennymoor A into the Second Division. However the Moors sent their hosts down when Alan Clark, Ronnie Bateman and Paul Biddle scored points for them. Jim Dufton and Walter Cornell took points for the Central.

Meadowfield moved up to share third place in the Second Division with Sherburn Village and Langley Park, whose chances of landing the Second Division Championship were ruined when Newhouse B resigned from the league just before the final game and had all their points removed form the table. Meadowfield visited the already doomed Durham City and only dropped one point when Brian Dunn won for the home side. John Jackson, Norman Smith, Stephen Hughes and Ian Hodgson scored the visitors' points.

Wheatley Hill B ended their stay in the First Division with only one point to their credit on their visit to Willington, who had wins from Arthur Goldsborough, Tom Parkin, Gordon Parkin and Jeremy Martin. Jock Frost scored the lone point for the Hill.

Newhouse A edged through to an odd point home win over Crook Belle Vue with wins from Kevin Allison, Jimmy Hassen and Steve Mountain, whilst Norman Slack and John Warriner replied for Belle Vue.

Crowtrees went down by the odd point at home to Hunwick when only Sean Johnston and Sonny Hann took points for them. The Hunwick points came from Tom Ward, Trevor Lomax and Barry Fleming.

Sacriston completed their first season in the Summer League with an odd point win at Tow Law, who finished second to bottom of the Third Division. The visitors had wins from Willy Nixon, Dale Evans and Jeff Evans. The Lawyers points came from Tommy Williams and Doug Watson. Fishburn B whitewashed the visiting league wooden spoonists from Leeholme B with wins from George Whitelock, Michael Bell, Keith Binks, Alan Wilson and Wayne Oliver.

Crook League

The young team from Crook Golden Fleece pulled off a good home win over the visiting Crook Surtees in the Second Division with singles wins from Richard Dobson, Aaron Cowan, Wayne Tindale, Stephen Fairgrieve and Martin Mann. John Uren proved the visiting star when he took their only singles point and then was joined by Howard Trotter to take the doubles.

Crook Olde Horse Shoe A moved into an early five points lead in the First Division with Crook Royal Sun and Crook Queen's Head sharing second place, one point ahead of Crook Mill House.

Crook Spitfire Club lead the Second Division by one point from Crook White Swan and Crook Golden Fleece, who are two ahead of Crook Jelly's Bar.

Knock-out Cup, first round draw: Crook Olde Horse Shoe A v Crook Queen's Head A in Division One and Crook Spitfire Club v Crook Surtees in Division Two. Matches to be played on Wednesday, October 3.
