Local ace Kenny Close led four double figured weights on the middle Tees between Coniscliffe and Croft to lift Darlington BT's Bambridge Cup recording a super net of 18.8.0, writes JEFF HERBERT.
The RSPS regular drew the run-out on Manfield Scar and searching a farside glide located eight chub on floatfished meat, wasp grub and caster.
For Darlington's Bobby Trees trailing a pound behind drawing just upstream on the run into the Scar stickfloat caster and maggot brought 2 chub in an otherwise splendid grayling net of 17.8.0
Best of the rest: Cyril Close (Shildon) 15.15.0; George Longstaff (Darlington) 11.11.0.
York & District AA's first match of the season since foot-and-mouth restrictions attracted a very disappointing entry of 36 rods. The Noakes Cup staged on the Ouse below the City was a low weight affair and Armley's Phil Austin put 6.15.0 onto the scales for victory.
From a peg on Middlethorpe Bend feeder and caster down the middle produced an early roach of 1.0.0 but with no more signs Phil switched to the pole & caster over chopped worms at 11 metres and caught two nice perch and small roach hotly pursued by Graham Austin of Selby on 6.5.0.
Sunderland's Norman Laing needed two fish to tame a low and clear River Wear around Chester-le-Street. On permanent peg 11 legered lobworm close in cast alongside willow cover resulted in 2 chub totalling 5.11.0.
Next best Terry Guthrie of Dick Clegg Metro relied on all gudgeon. Opting for pole and bronze maggot at nine metres he finished with 3.14.0. from peg 23.
In the Tadcaster APA Open on the Wharfe at Smaws Ings Boston Spa's Paul Brown pulled out the match length's real flyer peg no two. Scene of many wins in the past he promptly went straight home to collect extra wasp grub in keen anticipation.
The trip paid off. Starting on the bomb and grub three chub were quickly despatched into the keepnet but then a change to waggler and caster lured another two for a comprehensive 18.10.0 at the whistle.
Weights then took a severe nosedive and a single barbel of 5.11.0 to bomb and caster from peg ten secured second spot in the frame for Tadcaster's Ron Smailes.
There was a sensational entry for the River Calder Championships 180 rods lined the banks - the best entry for over 15 years.
Thanks to sponsors Weyermann the 2001 champion went home £1000 richer and ensured his name was first on the new prestigious trophy.
One of the river's most consistent anglers Adam Jaffier now under the Tri-Cast Highfield banner weighed in 10.14.0.
On the first peg below Cooper Bridge Adam alternated between stickfloat line and pole with maggot collecting 75 fish made up of roach dace and ide - nothing over 6ozs.
Literally ounces relegated Hirst Tackle's Tony Webster into runner up spot even though he had loads more fish than the winner. Pegged above Lillands Weir waggler and maggot approach encouraged small silver fish to feed and during a non stop session he pulled out 160 in all totalling 10.11.8.
At the Woodlands complex Map Elton's Ken Golightly has had his fair share of victories at Carlton Miniott but Saturday's success will certainly be remembered as he pushed the talented field over 23.0.0 adrift.
Drawn on Partridge 20 Ken took full advantage of the empty corner swim next door and bagged a big September haul of carp for 67.13.0.
Long pole attack cupping in sweetcorn and 'Sillybait' little and often small carp up to 3.0.0 responded as corn proved the deadly hookbait.
Normark's Steve Fearnley won the race for second place and found long and short pole advantageous off Skylark 25. The infamous cat meat delivered carp of a bigger stamp to 6.0.0 for 44.10.0.
The midweeker on Partridge & Skylark (40 rods): 1. C. Dawson (York Tackle ) 34.2.0; 2. G. Burnham (A1 Garage Doors) 22.14.0; 3. K. Kotchie (Map Elton) 22.5.0.
Meanwhile at the Oaks Sessay peg one ruled both Saturday and Sunday's opens on Maple Lake.
On Saturday Tri-Cast's John Allerton who has quickly established himself at Sessay made no mistake after pulling out the plum draw and recorded 44.6.0 for victory. Pole and cat meat down the centre channel and into the corner located carp including samples to 4.0.0.
Sunday's winner, Keenet Elton's Dave Pimlott beat the 59 strong field putting 46.8.0 onto the scales.
Fishing down the middle on pole and cat meat and then in the closing hour across on long pole and maggot resulted in 46.8.0 of carp with a few better samples to 5.0.0.
Fifth heat of the Alan Ried Ferryhill Bankmaster - Farmire nr Knaresborough: 1. Kevin Lancely (Newburn) 20.6.0; 2. Ernie Craster (Norton) 16.10.0; 3. Peter Crowe (Hartlepool) 16.7.0.
