IT NOW looks unlikely that the £25,000 laser lights show planned at Barnard Castle Christmas parade will go ahead.
The town council has plans to stage a laser display alongside the lantern procession and parade in December, but requests for grants have not been successful so far.
Bids have been made to several agencies, but no promise has been received to help fund the programme.
The clerk to the council, Mr Geoff Bosworth, said this week: "It is looking more and more unlikely that we will be able to stage the laser programme."
The council had, however, left the final decision until the next meeting in three weeks.
The Christmas lights will be officially switched on on November 30 and the lantern procession and parade will be staged in December.
