TWO FA Cup winners' medals from the North-East have raised more than £11,000 at auction.
The two 15-carat gold medals belonged to George Hedley, one of the region's most famous Victorian soccer stars.
The star, from South Bank near Middlesbrough, was awarded the medals during his illustrious career with Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The medals were expected to raise between £4,000 and £6,000 when they went on sale at Christie's in London yesterday.
The first, from 1899 when the Blades beat Derby County 4-1 was sold for a massive £9,988, while the other from Wolverhampton Wanderers' 3-1 victory over Newcastle United fetched £1,410.
