A COUNTY Durham high jumper is looking for sponsorship to put a spring in his step.
Ian Holliday, the North-East indoor and outdoor high jump champion, hopes to achieve his dream of competing in the Commonwealth Games, in Manchester next year.
The Bishop Auckland man is already ranked within the top ten high jumpers in Britain and at the recent UK championships in Birmingham he came third. But he still hopes to beat his personal best of 2m 16cm or 7ft 1in.
The 27-year-old is looking for sponsors to help him continue his training and qualify for the games.
For the past year, Wear Valley District Council has given the high jumper free use of the Woodhouse Close Leisure Centre, in Bishop Auckland, in the hope that the district will produce a winner.
He said: "I did say last year my aim was to get a GB vest, be within the top five in the UK championships and beat my personal best.
"I didn't get my personal best, but I have done the rest."
