MIDDLESBROUGH Mayor Councillor Pat Walker aided and abetted a jailbreak yesterday - but all in a good cause.
Desperate for funds, Teesside Hospice is next week hosting a two-day sponsored jailbreak in the Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough when local people and staff from companies in the area will be invited to arrest friends, family, bosses and work colleagues.
The chosen few will be imprisoned in a "cell" in the shopping centre until enough bail money is raised for their release.
Organisers are promising local celebrities and business personalities will be among those serving time.
The bail money donations will go towards the £2,500 daily running costs of the hospice. Coun Walker launched the event with a dry run yesterday.
Anyone wishing to nominate a jailbird should contact Joanne Denwood on (01642) 355878.
