REGENERATION workers have welcomed a £187,000 boost to help expand their work.
The Grove Hill 2000 regeneration partnership, in Middlesbrough, was awarded the cash in the latest round of grants from the Lottery's Community Fund.
It will be used to help more people access services provided by the Grove Hill Resource Centre, in Bishopton Road, and paves the way for further funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
It is hoped that over three years, the scheme will receive more than £400,000.
The latest funding will increase training and development opportunities for local people, with the resource centre being open every weekday evening for a range of social and training activities.
An extra six staff will be recruited, including a computer specialist and a caretaker.
Terry Davies, general manager of Grove Hill 2000, said: "We are very pleased with this news. The extra funding will have substantial and very real benefits for our residents.
"We now have the resources to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to get involved and contribute to future plans for training and education, environmental improvements, youth provision and crime prevention measures."
