YOUNGSTERS milked the chance to dress up for a celebration at an infant school.
The pupils and nursery children at St Oswald's, Durham, were asked to adopt appropriate outfits for Word School Milk Day, on Wednesday.
Headteacher Kathleen Linsley said many Newcastle United football supporters opted to wear their black-and-white shirts.
However, the friesian cattle theme went down less well with supporters of Newcastle's red and white rivals, Sunderland.
"We had to apologise to the Sunderland supporters among them and explain it was nothing to do with football loyalties. It was just the suggested theme for the day, as friesians are black and white."
St Oswald's was one of a number of schools across County Durham celebrating World School Milk Day.
They joined pupils in schools in 14 countries taking part in the event, which originated in Canada, and is now backed by the United Nations and several world dairy organisations.
