Middlesbrough's recent run of good form came to an end at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors to Teesside, Southampton, deservedly returned south with three points in the bag after ending a run that had seen their opponents take seven points from a possible nine.
Two goals from James Beattie and a penalty from Marian Pahars were enough to secure victory for the Saints, with Alen Boksic replying for the hosts.
