A NEW "superloo" block could be open in Northallerton within the next year after a long-running saga.
The £115,000 scheme to replace the toilets on the Applegarth with an attendant-operated block of 16 toilets has won the backing of Hambleton District Council.
Cabinet members agreed that the block would be the first toilets operated by the authority to make a charge for use. They hope a charge of 20p per visit will reduce the likelihood of vandalism.
Work on the block should begin early next year. It will include facilities for disabled people, baby changing areas and a shower room.
