PROJECT TO REPAIR CLIFFTOPS : Work is about to start on an £180,000 project to repair cliffs at Scarborough that were damaged in last winter's storms. The first area to be tackled will be the clifftop by Clarence Gardens and the Holms. The area will be made stable by anchoring work and paths that were closed on safety grounds will be reinstated. Once completed, a new skateboard and play area will be built at Clarence Gardens.

COZIE CENTRE: A youth community centre opened in Easingwold last night. Cozie, or Chill Out Zone in Easingwold, is the result of a five-year project to convert a small brick outhouse in the grounds of the Galtres Centre into a drop-in centre for young people.

CATS CASH: The Pickering and District Cats Protection League raised £1,085 during its summer street collections.

READERS CAFE: Northallerton Library staff are holding their third Readers' event on Wednesday, October 17 from 10am to noon. The Readers Cafe will have coffee and biscuits served and staff will be on hand with a variety of books to whet readers' appetites.

COFFEE MORNING: The monthly coffee morning at Great Smeaton will take place today, at 10.15am.

HARVEST SUPPER: St Mary's Church Harvest supper will take place at 6.30pm at Appleton Wiske Village Hall, on Wednesday, October 10.

CHRISTMAS PUDDINGS: Thirsk Community Minibus Association will be taking orders for its Christmas puddings from a stall in the market place on Saturday. Alternatively, orders can be placed at the association office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

HARVEST THANKS: Prison chaplain Alison Marshall will give the address at Friday's harvest thanksgiving service at St Cuthbert's Church, in Sessay at 7pm. Supper and an auction of produce will follow in the village hall.

BAND CONCERT: Sessay Singers will join Thirsk Royal British Legion Band on Saturday, for a concert in Sessay Village Hall, at 7.30pm. Admission is free.

COFFEE MORNING: The Richmondshire Museum will hold a coffee morning at the town hall on Thursday, from 8.30 am to noon. There will be cake and bric-a-brac stalls, raffles and tombola.

STRING ALONG: The On Tour programme, compiled by Rural Arts, resumes today with a run of Roly Poly the Giant's Wife, at village halls in Wigglesworth, Newton-le-Willows, Sutton-in-Craven, Crayke, Stainforth and Kettlewell. ORGAN DONATIONS: Singers who perform in Victorian dress, will be giving a concert in aid of the organ appeal at St Mary's Church, in Richmond, next month.
