A TINY community is fighting back after vandals damaged stained glass windows in its Methodist chapel.

Four windows at Woolley Terrace Methodist Chapel, Stanley, Crook, near Bishop Auckland, were badly damaged.

It is estimated they will cost more than £4,000 to repair.

The congregation has very quickly raised £1,000 through a Newcastle charitable trust and hundreds of pounds through private fundraising.

At a coffee morning, where home-made jam and scones were served, two sisters who have worshipped at the chapel most of their lives raised a remarkable £240.

More money is needed to carry out the window repairs and provide protection for other stained glass windows at the chapel, which attracts Sunday congregations of about 20 people.
