THE future of an area of land in the heart of Northallerton could be decided by an architectural competition.
Hambleton councillors have suggested the competition to their counterparts at North Yorkshire County Council, who are looking at the land in front of the town hall as part of a review of bus facilities in the town.
Formerly the site of the public toilets and car parking, the land is now paved.
Under the proposals a larger paved area would be created between the town hall and the market cross and a bus layby created. The plans are part of a package which includes changes in North End, Zetland Street, the Nags Head and the post office.
Hambleton District Council cabinet leader, Councillor June Imeson, said: "We would like to see a competition held with all designs then subjected to public scrutiny."
