GIVEN all of the wet and windy weather we've experienced in the region lately, Typhoon Ginger (5.00) is something of a topical tip in the one mile Cantor Handicap at Newcastle.

Tony Mulholland's six-year-old mare deserves a bit of luck after cruelly denied a clear run at Beverley last week. Sticking to the far rail is always a dangerous ploy at the last-named track because there is always a possibility of getting boxed in.

Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing, however jockey Fergus Sweeney's tactics of steering Typhoon Ginger to the inner, rather than take a wide course, did ultimately prove to be unwise.

The reigning champion Kevin Darley now takes over in the saddle with a golden opportunity to make amends at the Tyneside venue, where traditionally such unfortunate incidents occur far less often.

Darley has a fine chance of getting on the scoreboard much earlier in the day via Systematic (3.00).

He was no match for David Loder-trained hot-pot, Kashmor, on his debut at Pontefract, but still impressed by finishing well clear of the rest of the field that day.

David Chapman's speedy seven-year-old Sharp Hat (4.00) should revel in the testing conditions for the five furlong Bet On The Movies Handicap.

Not only is Sharp Hat an in-form previous track and trip winner, he goes particularly well for Darryll Holland.

I've not much faith in getting the money down at Brighton, especially when the ground is on the heavy side, nevertheless there is a case to be made for Eastern Jewel (5.10) in the closing mile-and-a-half Amateur Riders' Handicap.

Amanda Perrett's filly has gradually improved as the season has progressed, and looks the ideal ride for her sister, Lucy, who will know the horse inside out having regularly partnered the three-year-old on the home gallops.

The action at Salisbury appears to be equally trappy, although some advantage may be gleaned from supporting Budelli (3.20) in the £15,000 Showcase Handicap.

A string of recent second placings does not infer that Mick Channon's gelding is at all ungenuine, merely a coincidence of continuing to keep finding "one too good".

Budelli has been blessed with a useful low draw, and off his relatively lightweight makes plenty of appeal, albeit in an extremely competitive contest.
