WAGES owed to this season's squad at Newcastle Jesters Ice Hockey Club have arrived, although last season's squad are still owed about £150,000.

Concerns that the pay crisis, which dates back to February, would deepen arose after cash due from the club's owners, Fablon Investments, on Friday failed to arrive by Monday. But director of hockey Glenn Mulvenna confirmed that the cheques arrived on Tyneside on Tuesday.

He said "a chunk" of the money owed to himself from last season had also been paid, although it is not believed any of the cash owed to the players from last term had arrived.

He said: "The cheques are in. I'm pleased. It appears that they are at least trying.

"Obviously, they have got a long way to go, but at least there is some movement. The guys are upbeat and hopefully this is a sign of things to come."
