A CONSTRUCTION firm's plans to provide extra affordable housing in a market town look set to be thrown out by planners.
Barratt York has submitted proposals to Hambleton District Council to build 68 houses and flats on land at Ryebeck Farm, off Stockton Road, Thirsk.
The company offered to provide eight homes on the site for rent, which would be transferred to Broadacres Housing Association, together with £650,000 to buy another 26 in the town.
A second option offered 21 houses at low prices and £325,000 to be given to the association to purchase another 13 for rent.
The plans have been opposed by the town and county councils, as well as the Ramblers' Association.
Members of Hambleton District Council's planning committee will be urged by officers to reject the plans when they meet tomorrow
