A SOLDIER is due to arrive in Geneva tomorrow after cycling 600m from Catterick Garrison to raise money for the breast cancer campaign.
Lieutenant Joe McMahon, of the 1st Battalion the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, left his North Yorkshire base last Friday and hoped to cover 100m a day. He had never been a cyclist and bought a bike for the trip.
The Swiss-born 28-year-old is due to meet family in Geneva before jetting off for a trek in Nepal.
He was inspired to raise money for the breast cancer charity by Sergeant Philip Poyntz, whose sister, Deneze Webster, was diagnosed with the disease in 1999. She had a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery that year and recently raised £522 for the charity by taking part in a sponsored swim.
