POLICE want to contact two good samaritans who stopped to help a man after he had been knifed.
The 26-year-old victim was walking near the Plough pub, in Byker Bank, Newcastle, yesterday, at about 9am, when the attack happened.
He was approached from behind and attacked by a number of men who stabbed him repeatedly.
He was left staggering along the road with stab wounds after his attackers ran off, but he managed to flag down a man and a woman in a red VW Polo who were driving past.
They stopped some time between 9am and 9.45am. They helped him into the car and took him to the city's Royal Victoria Infirmary, where last night his condition was described as "stable, and not life threatening".
Police are urging the couple to come forward by contacting Newcastle East CID on 0191-454 7555.
