A COMPROMISE over the design of a housing scheme in Barton, near Darlington, has proved enough to persuade planning officials to give the project conditional approval.
Six homes are likely to be built on the site of the former haulage depot overlooking the village green - fewer than first proposed by Carlton Developments.
The parish council was among those with reservations when the initial plans were submitted earlier in the summer.
However, architects have since deleted one of the detached properties from the proposals to free more space for parking and landscaping.
Some of the aesthetic aspects of the homes designs have also been altered, including windows, chimneys and the materials which will be used to construct the houses.
Richmondshire District Council approved the project on Tuesday, although the developer will still need to satisfy the authority that it can meet requirements on drainage.
