TOUGH security measures could be brought to a market town after a spate of vandalism caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Vandals smashed windows at cemetery chapels in Malton, as well as damaging play equipment and tourist information boards.
Town mayor Jane Welford said councillors were now consulting with police over ways to bring added protection to Malton.
"We want everything repaired and put back together as soon as possible," she said. "The police are helping us look at ways of protecting these sites, possibly with CCTV.
"We do not really suffer in general from vandalism and it is disappointing when it happens."
A set of swings were damaged at Rainbow Lane, while an information board at Water Lane car park was also vandalised.
Sergeant Dave Cooper, of Malton police, said: "Our officers try to look out for incidents of this nature and patrol these areas. If anyone does see any acts of vandalism, we would appreciate it if they could report them to us straight away."
