COUNCILLORS will meet tomorrow to discuss progress on the Hartlepool Western Greenway.
In 1998, the Tees Forest Team identified several greenways within Hartlepool, the main one being the Hartlepool Western Greenway, which connects Summerhill Country Park with the Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park.
The aim is to provide a car-free off-road route that allows people the chance to access facilities and open spaces in and around Hartlepool.
Work has been gradual, because of difficulties in securing funding.
However, backing for the project has now been secured, with grants from the Countryside Agency and ICI Petrochemicals. Additional funds from Hartlepool Borough Council's Local Transport Plan have also been secured.
The sections from Summerhill to Brierton Lane, and from the Greatham Village link road to Cowpen Bewley are complete, although signposts are needed.
Work on the section from Brierton Lane to Lindsay Road will begin soon
