Bishop Auckland boss Tony Lee was full of praise for on-loan midfielder Kevin Bromley after Bishops' 1-1 draw with Blyth on Tuesday night.

"Kevin gave us some width which we've been missing in recent games," said Lee.

"As the game went on, he came more and more into it, and he showed that he's got plenty of potential."

Lee was disappointed with the draw, which denied Bishops their first win at Kingsway this season. Carl Chillingsworth headed Bishops in front, only for Neil Radigan to equalise.

"Under the circumstances, I thought we would have hung on," said Lee.

"With our full side out, we will beat most teams in this league, but we're suffering badly from injuries at the moment."

Andrew Shaw, Danny Brunskill, David Bayles, Stephen Bell and Steve Hutt all missed Tuesday's game, and will probably be missing again when Bishops travel to Barrow tonight.

The Kinsway club are a little better off financially thanks to a clause in their transfer of Jeff Smith to Bolton Wanderers.

Smith moved to the Reebok Stadium during the summer for £20,000, and when he came on for his first team debut against Walsall in the Worthington Cup a fortnight ago, he earned Bishops another £5,000.

Spennymoor defeated Birtley 3-0 in the Durham Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

Moors took the lead after 15 minutes when Stephen Pickering scored from a Lee Adamson pass, and in the second half Paul Richardson lobbed the keeper for the second.

Adamson fired the third ten minutes from the end.

Whitby boss Harry Dunn was in the crowd, on a spying mission before the FA Cup tie between the two clubs next Saturday.

Moors are hoping to sign former player Jason Ainsley from Bishops by tonight, so that he can play in the cup next week.

Moors are in action tomorrow afternoon at Eastwood Town, at 1pm.
