Darlington Borough Council is showing its backing for the redevelopment of the Lingfield Point complex by installing road signs around the town.

Lingfield Point, centred on the former Patons and Baldwins factory, is being redeveloped as a premier business location by Lingfield Investments.

It is receiving an injection of £120m, £16m of which has already been spent on Lingfield House.

Located north of Yarm Road Industrial Estate, Lingfield Point is adjacent to the A66 with access from McMullen Road.

Work will start next year on a new road system linking the site to the A66, ensuring that traffic servicing the site does not disrupt nearby residential areas.

The 1.6 million sq ft site at Lingfield Point covers 125 acres and will offer industrial buildings, warehousing and modern office space.

The site was acquired by Lingfield Investment in 1998, and is being redeveloped in phases as part of a rolling programme over the next seven years.

Eddie Humphries, estate manager at Lingfield Point, said: "This is going to be the first choice location for businesses moving to the Darlington area, and jobs will follow, so we are delighted that the council is supporting us in this way."

He added: "Lingfield Investments will be seeking planning permission for the various projects associated with the £120m redevelopment scheme at the appropriate time."
