A SERIES of craft workshops are being launched at a Durham museum this weekend.

Sunday Fundays will be held until Christmas at the dli - formerly the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery - at Aykley Heads.

The arts and crafts afternoons for all the family start tomorrow with Animal Crackers, which will be led by professional artist Effie Burns.

Youngsters, who must be aged between five and 11, will be able to make their own animal puppets from various materials and then watch them "perform" on stage.

The next session, on Sunday, October 21, is called Beauty and the Beast, and the subject will be butterflies and creepy crawlies.

Raucous Rockets will be held on November 4, to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day safely.

On November 18, participants will have the chance to make a fused glass tile. The work has to be fired in a kiln and collected the following week, so early booking for a place is essential.

Two sessions in December have a Christmas flavour, with make do and mend World War Two Christmas food and decorations on December 2 and Christmas crackers on December 16.

The sessions run from 2pm to 3pm and each child must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are £2.50 for children and adults, and places can be booked on 0191-384 2214. All art materials are supplied, but not aprons.
