DOUBT has been cast over an appearance in the North-East by Roberto Duran after the boxing legend was seriously injured in a car crash.
Duran, who won world titles at four different weights in the 1970s and 1980s, was due to be guest of honour at a sportsman's evening at the Newcastle city Holiday Inn.
The show was organised over two nights, on October 26 and 27, by Jarrow Bilton Amateur Boxing Club.
Duran, 50, suffered multiple injuries when a car he was a passenger in crashed into another vehicle in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Thursday.
Martyn Devlin, who is promoting the sportsman's evening, said: "We have been working on this for more than 12 months and people are coming from all over the country."
A decision would be taken on whether the shows went ahead early next week, said Mr Devlin.
