PLANS for a hot food take-away on a busy shopping street in Billingham look set to be refused over concerns from residents.

Stockton Borough Council has received a planning application to create a take-away in Station Road.

A number of objections have been received from residents who believe the area has begun to decline in popularity as a family shopping area due to the increased number of take-aways along the street.

A report to the council's planning committee, which meets next Friday said: "This part of Station Road has an abundant supply of hot food take-aways including Chinese, fish and chips, Indian and pizza shops.

"It is envisaged the proposed take-away would add little to this part of the district centre through the normal shopping day because it would attract most customers outside those times.

"For much of the day it would be a dead frontage and because of this would add to the problems that this part of the centre might be experiencing in catering for the wider needs of the local population.
