A facility for schools and community groups visiting Preston Hall Museum, Eaglescliffe, opened at the weekend.
The Learning Resource Room can be booked by schools, youth organisations, family learning groups and other organisations that support learning.
It will offer activity packs, such as Victorian clothing and traditional toys and games.
Special packs are available for younger children and are designed to tie in with the National Curriculum.
Muriel King, museums officer for Stockton Borough Council, said: "The resource room is designed to be welcoming and flexible to ensure that groups using the museum have an extra-special visit.
"We also hope soon to be able to make the resources available to families at weekends."
The museums service would like to hear from anyone who has time to talk to visitors about games and toys such as hopscotch and iron hoops - call (01642) 415380.
To book the room, call (01642) 397590.
