A HUGE party is being held this week to celebrate the achievements of young people in care.
Durham County Council's Social Services department will be presenting a total of almost 60 awards to youngsters, aged between eight and 18, in recognition of their efforts across a wide range of activities.
The event, entitled Let's Get Together, will take place at County Hall, this Wednesday, and Century FM presenter Paul "Goffy" Gough will be on hand to present the awards for sporting, academic and personal achievements.
Duncan Routley, the council's senior child care coordinator, said: "Just like any parent likes to celebrate the achievements of their child, the council, as a corporate parent for children in care, is keen to say well done."
He added: "These things are proper achievements which any parent would be proud of."
As well as the award presentations, Let's Get Together will also feature music, quizzes, drama and food.
