FOSTER parents are being issued with computers in a bid to improve educational standards among children in care.
The first batch of 30 computers and software packages are being delivered to Middlesbrough foster families as part of a range of measures being introduced by Middlesbrough Borough Council.
Through its public service agreement with the Government, the council has committed itself to involving foster parents in promoting learning, making certain teachers responsible for children in care, and producing records of achievement.
Chair of the council's corporate parenting board, councillor John McPartland, said: "I am delighted with the council's determination to help raise the level of educational achievement of children being looked after.
"We are committed to raising educational standards throughout Middlesbrough and it is important that children who are looked after aren't left out.
"We have a moral and legal responsibility for them and we will do our utmost not to let them down.
