FORMAL bids have been submitted for permission to erect surveillance cameras in two North Yorkshire communities plagued by vandalism.
Youths have been blamed for numerous incidents in Scotton and Catterick Garrison in the past 12 months, and the police have launched initiatives to control them.
Both communities have applied successfully for cash to cover the cost of closed-circuit television systems, which will be added to the network around the garrison.
Mallard Road, in Catterick Garrison, Hipswell's St John's Church, primary school and village hall, as well as Meanee Road, Bedale Road and the village hall in Scotton are all listed as possible sites for camera units.
Each will need to be scrutinised by the district council, with reports submitted for consideration within the next few weeks.
