A MAN is recovering in hospital after he was beaten up on a busy road in the late afternoon.
The 34-year-old, who lives locally, sustained serious head injuries in the attack on Normanby Road, South Bank, in Middlesbrough, near the junction with Market Street.
He was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital, where he is being detained, and his condition is said to be stable.
His attacker is described as a white man who is between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall, broad built and in his late 20s or early 30s, with light, cropped hair. He was wearing a light shirt, jeans and rigger boots.
After the assault, he was seen getting into a D-registered jeep-type vehicle, which is possibly gold or silver and was parked on Normanby Road.
It did a U-turn and made off along Normanby Road, towards Eston.
The incident happened on Saturday, at 5.15pm, when the road was busy, and police are appealing to witnesses to contact them, on (01642) 302626.
