EXOTIC creatures patrolled the classroom when secondary school students learned all about the environment.
Pupils from St John's RC Comprehensive School, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, came face to face with a Chile-Rose tarantula, a snake, a toad, a snail, a cockroach and a rat, as part of their scientific studies.
Science teacher at the school, Barbara Dodd, said the hands-on approach to the environmental studies had been a great success.
She said: "All the year seven students were able to handle the animals and the presenter really knew what he was talking about.
"I think to expose the pupils to some exotic and unusual animals has helped them learn a lot about the environment."
The animals were brought to the school from Scotland and belong to a company called Zoolab, which looks after the animals and uses them to help educate youngsters in schools around the country
