ENTERPISE agency Entrust is managing a construction industry training scheme to ensure future jobs on North-East building projects go to Tynesiders.
The Ignite project, launched in June, has already developed successful links with major construction projects in Newcastle and Gateshead.
Entrust project coordinator Steve Dunn said: "The aim of Ignite is to get unemployed residents from Newcastle and Gateshead into training and then into construction jobs.
"There are some very big building projects currently under way in the region and we have already achieved some notable successes."
Ignite will focus on sites in East Gateshead, Grainger Town and Newburn Riverside.
While Entrust provides overall project management, training is contracted out to construction industry-approved organisations.
Entrust project manager Geoff Oliver said: "With some tremendously exciting construction development in hand, we are delighted to help provide careers for local people."
