A SCHOOL was in mourning last night after a pupil collapsed and died during a lesson.
An investigation is under way into the death of 14-year-old Jamie Bucknell, who died during an English lesson at Huntington School, in York, yesterday.
The year ten student had collapsed in school before. Awards were given to the two members of staff who resuscitated Jamie when he was taken ill about 18 months ago.
Headteacher Chris Bridge said Jamie collapsed just before lunchtime yesterday and an ambulance was immediately called, but the youngster could not be revived.
Mr Bridge said: "Jamie was a very popular pupil who will be missed by members of his form, his year group and pupils from many other years, as well as his teachers.
"He was particularly popular with his own form group. Huntington School is greatly shocked by what happened."
Children in Jamie's class are to be offered counselling by City of York Council's educational services team.
Jamie lived in Brecks Lane, Strensall, near York, with his parents, Deborah and Keith. His sister, Jodie, is a year eight pupil at the school.
