LIKE Peter Pan, a small part of 18 of the region's most talented youngsters will be forever young.
For the six to 11-year-olds will be able to look back on the time they starred at one of the North-East's leading venues in Peter Pan - The Pantomime.
The youngsters were picked from more than 200 hopefuls who auditioned to appear in this year's Sunderland Empire panto, starring actor Brian Blessed and BBC children's TV presenter Kirsten O'Brien, from Teesside.
"By the time the producer got to the final 30 it was really tough," said theatre spokesman Ed Tutty.
"I know everyone always says that, but it really was clear that the children were so talented that just about any of them could have fit the bill. It will be an experience of a lifetime for them."
The children, who had their first rehearsal last night, will be split into two teams of eight, each with a reserve member. The teams will take turns performing as lost children in the pantomime.
The youngsters, who come from across the region, will have an intensive few weeks rehearsing before the show starts, on December 21. It will run until January 20.
