PROPOSALS to regenerate some of the most deprived areas of Teesside are to be discussed in a consultation process involving local people.
Yesterday, members of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's executive approved the findings of a report by Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners into ways to regenerate the South Bank, Grangetown, Teesville, Eston and Normanby areas of Teesside.
The report highlighted the development of a new district centre and the demolition of housing in the South Bank and Grangetown areas as being crucial to the area's regeneration.
Local people who will be at the centre of the changes will be asked for their opinions along with a host of regeneration, statutory and other interested parties.
Councillor Ian Jeffrey, who represents the Eston ward, said: "Unless the problems in terms of housing, particularly, are addressed, it is going to add to the overall terminal decline of the Greater Eston area itself.
"People are concerned about the future. People are getting very frustrated at having to live in these circumstances in the 21st Century."
