POWER company Innogy has announced plans to axe 250 jobs from its North-East workforce.
The jobs will go at the supply operations it bought from Northern Electric in September. At the time, Innogy announced that there were likely to be job losses, but did not say how many could be affected.
The 250 redundancies will be made from the 600-strong workforce at Northern Electric's Carliol House headquarters, in Newcastle.
The cutbacks are part of Innogy's plans to save £25m a year as part of a deal which saw it swap Yorkshire Electricity's £1bn distribution arm for Northern's supply business.
Innogy, which is also cutting 1,000 jobs from its call centre operations, has not ruled out more job losses at the former Northern Electric operations
