LEADING wheelchair tennis players from around the world will be serving up some top class sport in the North-East during the next three days.
The North-East Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, at Sunderland's Puma Tennis Centre, is one of only three world ranking events staged in Britain during the year.
It has attracted some of the world's top 100 wheelchair players in the open division, as progress in the tournament offers prized points in the rankings.
Among them is a home-grown talent, in David Gardner, from Wheatley Hill, County Durham, who is ranked 29th in the world.
Play begins at 9.30am today and will continue over the next two days, with the final on Saturday afternoon.
Spectators are welcome to watch, free of charge, with further information available from the centre, in Silksworth Lane, on 0191-553 5905
