HEROIN addict Stuart Singleton went shoplifting less than two hours after being released by police, a court heard yesterday.
Peter Scott, prosecuting, told Harrogate magistrates how Singleton, 20, had been charged and bailed at 2.45pm over the theft of two bottles of Vodka - but by 4.30pm he was back under arrest for the theft of five shirts, valued at £145, from the town's Debenham's store.
Singleton, of Cheltenham Mount, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, admitted both thefts.
His solicitor Geoffrey Rogers said he stole to raise cash to fund his heroin habit. Earlier this year, he had been convicted of theft and breaking into a domestic garage and was subject to a probation order.
Court chairman Jim Fender ordered the probation to continue and gave Singleton a conditional discharge for 12 months.
