FOUR kittens found abandoned on the edge of the A1M are in need of homes.
Darlington dog warden John Martin was called out to the motorway at the top of North Road on Wednesday afternoon after a motorist spotted the kittens. They were stuck between the slip road and motorway.
Just one of the kittens was caught on Wednesday, as the other three ran off, but Mr Martin managed to catch them yesterday morning.
"They are about five weeks old," said Mr Martin, who usually only deals with dogs, but responded to the emergency alert. "They all had a few ticks and fleas and are a bit thin, but we think they have been dumped there, because you would not expect feral cats to survive that long out there."
The kittens have been taken to Grange Vets, in Victoria Road, Darlington, where staff have cleaned them up ready to find them homes.
Anyone able to offer them a caring home is asked to contact the vets on (01325) 465371
