In week seven of the Cleveland Billiards and Snooker League Redcar Workies 'A' lost their first point of the season to Marske Workies 'A'. Phil Carr was up first for the home team playing Andrew Williams. Williams controlled a very cagey opening game and ended up winning by 64-24. In the second game Phil Carr had a 14-7 advantage until he compiled the highest recorded break of the season. This was a magnificent 108 clearance of which Ronnie O'Sullivan himself would have been proud, especially the last two pots on the pink and black of which can only be classed as extraordinary.
The score now standing at one frame each Richard Beckham took the next two games off Andrew Mudd with frame scores of 63-47 and 61 - 15. In the final two games Parsons beat Dave Rhodes by 64 - 27 and 73 - 33. Redcar Workies were worthy winners on the night by 5 -1 and remain well in charge at the top of the table.
Redcar Lakes A also chalked up an identical 5-1 home result against Redcar Cons while their B team recorded a good away result when tying 3-3 with New Marske B.
Grinkle Park continued their run of good form beating New Marske A by 4-2. Newly promoted Saltburn Cons. A also continued their good run of form when on their travels they beat Lune Street A by 4-2. In the final match of the week Guisborough Cons were held to a 3 - 3 draw at home by neighbours Guisborough TA.
Division 2
Carlin How's B team had a good 4 - 2 home win against Val's Priory. Ross McMillan was first up against John Bracchi. McMillan lost both games 42-70 and 38-64.
Butters steered Carlin back on track beating Barry Walker in both of his games by 54-13 and 49-38. Andrew Wiseman made sure of the victory when beating Oliver 66-33 and 61-10. This result has placed Carlin at the top of the Second Division. Redcar Cons. B were held to a 3- 3 draw at home against Redcar Workies 'A' team but have still managed to hold onto second place in the league. Redcar Lakes D had a good away result when beating Saltburn Cons. B by 4-2. Lune Street B chalked up a good 3-3 away result against title contenders Redcar Unionist A.
Ennis square A also did their push for promotion no harm when beating the Unionist's B team by 5-1.
Wm Young Cup Team Snooker Final.
The final was between Redcar Lakes 'A' and Ennis Square 'A' at Val's Priory Club on November 8. The referree for this match was Phil Vaughan. Kevin Moon was first up drawn against Graham Marshall. Moon was conceding 15 points start but soon made short work of this when beating Marshall by 63 points to 40. Marshall made
good use of his start in the second game compiling an early 20 break. He managed to hold on to this lead levelling the match at one frame each when winning by 67-45. Steve Buckton, for Ennis, was next up playing Neil Grey.Buckton received 10 points start but Grey made short work of this when compiling early breaks of 22 and 23.
Neil didn't look in any trouble throughout this game and ran out a comfortable winner by 96-52. The advantage was now with Redcar Lakes who were now ahead by 2-1 and they also now had a 44 points advantage in the long game. Ricky Warrior then played Malcolm Tempke from the Lakes. In the early stages of this game Ricky took quick advantage of his five points start and eventually ground out an excellent win beating Tempke by 70 points to 43. The match was now tied at two frames each with only 17 points in the long game still in Redcar Lakes's favour. Steve Buckton was next up playing Neil Grey once again. Steve managed to knock in breaks of 22 and 15 to take command of this game. Grey fought bravely back but Buckton ran out the eventual winner by 77-61. Ennis had now turned the match on it's head and were now leading by 3-2. The long game was not of any real consequence now as the Lakes were just leading by a single point.The pressure was now on for the last two players as whoever won this game also secured their team's victory. Malcolm Tempke was up against Ennis Square's anchor man, Ricky Warrior. Ricky played Tempke very tight. Warrior never looked in any trouble and took total control, eventually winning by 64 points to 31. The end result was a 5-2 victory in Ennis Square's favour.
