Hartlepool United are out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle after going down 3-1 at Swindon on Saturday.
Pool could count themselves unlucky and the score line in no way reflected on Pools' performance.
The home side went 2-0 up with a brace of goals in a minute before the break.
First Neil Ruddock scored from the penalty spot and less than 60 seconds later it was 2-0 as Danny Invincible tapped home from close range.
Yet Pool gave themselves a fighting chance when Darrell Clarke slammed home a close range volley before the break.
Pool took the game to the home side but had little reward and they were punished with a quarter of on hour remaining when Matt Heywood headed past Williams.
Agonisingly there was still time for Pool to twice hit the bar through Gordon Watson and Richie Humphreys, whilst another shot was hacked off the line.
