A new upmarket lap dancing club in Harrogate has imported staff from all round the country to beat an advertising ban imposed by its local JobCentre.

The move ensured the new club kept its pledge to open its doors on Thursday night.

Bosses at the town centre club, operated by international chain Spearmint Rhino, said they were grateful that the Employment Service boycotted their job adverts.

They say publicity surrounding the veto sparked so much interest that more than 400 people turned up on the opening night.

Dancers, bar staff and other workers were imported from the company' venues in London, Heathrow, Uxbridge, Birmingham and Bourne-mouth to get the show on the road.

Since the JobCentre slapped its ban on the club's advertising, a placard has been paraded outside the club to announce vacancies.

So far 15 of the 30 jobs have been snapped up and others are expected to be filled shortly.

Until then staff will continue coming from other night spots.

The club chain, which is planning to open more venues, decided to open in Harrogate because of the lucrative conference and exhibition trade.

The venue will open from 11pm until 2am but close earlier on Sundsays. A major opening event is planned for January.
