SPENNYMOOR are looking for a new manager after Peter Quigley was surprisingly sacked following Saturday's 5-4 home win over Workington.

Quigley, who took Tow Law to Wembley three years ago, had been in charge since July, but according to the club, "recent events" have prompted them to replace him.

Club chairman Barrie Hindmarch, who has installed midfielder Jason Ainsley as the man to take temporary charge of team affairs, said: "We weren't happy with the team's performances.

"Until yesterday's game, we were five places away from a return to the Northern League, and we felt that action needed to be taken."

Quigley, whose assistant Tony Heslop has also been sacked, said: "I was told that I wasn't providing value for money, but I said when I was appointed that it was going to be a hard season."

Moors win over Workington prevented them from sliding into the bottom five, although they nearly threw the points away after being 3-0 up at one stage.

They took the lead through Jarrod Suddick from a Lee Adamson pass, then Tony Skedd scored at the second attempt. Adamson raced clear to score the third before the break, but then Moors fell apart, and by the hour, Workington had pulled level.

Suddick missed a spot kick after 61 minutes, and immediately after Workington went 4-3 up.

But Carl Beasley levelled from a corner, and in a dramatic finish, Adamson weaved his way through the visiting defence to score a superb winner.

In the Premier Division, Bishop Auckland lost ground on the leaders after their 1-0 defeat at home to Gainsborough.

Manager Tony Lee wasn't happy with the visitors' tactics. "We weren't protected by the referee," he said.

"They showed their intentions early on, and the ref didn't clamp down. But I wasn't happy with our performance. The game was there to be won, but we weren't good enough."

Gainsborough took the lead after 39 minutes through Paul Watts following a solo run.

Bishops had some good chances in the second half, but the visiting keeper did well

Gateshead dropped a couple of places after they were beaten 4-2 at home by Marine, who scored twice in the last five minutes through Neil Black. Robbie Painter and Steve Agnew scored for Gateshead. Blyth Spartans drew 0-0 at Accrington Stanley
